GEORGIA AAPI TASK FORCE
2012 SE Reg. Action WHIAAPI Report
The Georgia AAPI Task Force is comprised of volunteers from various groups who have long been involved in local AAPI issues in Georgia. In March 2012, our group of dedicated organizers coordinated the hugely successful Southeast Regional Action Summit for the White House Initiative on AAPIs (WHIAAPI) at Emory University, attended by over 500 community members. The Committee providing logistics, planning, programming and support for the White House Initiative on AAPIs, and delivered a written report to the WHIAAPI Commissioners for 2012 May APA Heritage Month in Washington, DC. Capitalizing on that cameraderie and passion, we organized the 2013 Georgia AAPI Legislative Day on Feb. 28, 2013, bringing the largest number of AAPIs to the Georgia Capitol in history.

INFORMATION ABOUT AAPI VOTERS

Glenn Magpantay, Director of the Democracy Program at AALDEF, shares 2012 AAPI Voter statistics at our Advocacy Training Session
One of the persistent dynamics of the AAPI electorate is its continued potential for persuasion by candidates of either party. As noted in the National Asian American pre-election Survey, the proportion of undecided voters among AAPIs a month before Election Day was about 3‒4 times greater than the national average. Further examination of party identification among AAPIs reveals that a sizable proportion does not identify with either party. The Post-Election Survey reveals that 46% of AAPI registered voters, and 43% of those who voted in the 2012 election, do not identify as either Democrat or Republican. These results indicate that party outreach (which, so far, has been relatively lacking among AAPIs when compared to other groups), can play a significant role in shaping the future vote choices of AAPIs .
For future campaigns, it is clear that this untapped potential in the AAPI community requires a commitment and investment in outreach efforts by candidates, parties, and other organizations to engage with this sizable and rapidly growing group of voters. - From Behind the Numbers: Post-Election Survey of Asian American Voters in 2012, a Collaborative Report by the Asian American Justice Center, APIA Vote, and the National Asian American Survey.
